Zhejiang province enforcing environmental reform

Zhejiang Province cited 6,151 enterprises for rectification, 3,477 enterprises for punishment and issued tickets amounting to more than 190 million yuan, the reported, citing an official statement.

The actions took place between August 11 and September 11. Most of the enterprises are located in the areas of Hangzhou, Shaoxing and Ningbo, the report said.

"Environmental supervision is divided into two stages. First shut down, then resume operation," an environmental industry analyst pointed out.

"For smaller businesses it's mainly shut down operations, as for medium or large enterprises, the supervision will try to promote more environmentally friendly equipment or system upgrades."

Since the government started environmental inspections in 2015, many companies have begun to upgrade their equipment, the report said.
