Kuwait- Steps to bring drivers, cooks, houseboys from India begin

(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY, Sept 11: Al-Durra Domestic Company has started procedures to bring in domestic workers from India. India was selected as the first destination of recruitment, because Indian domestic workers are familiar with Kuwaiti way of life and also considered less trouble-making.

General Manager of the company Saleh Al-Wehaib said they have started recruiting drivers, cooks and house boys, and the cost of hiring inexperienced laborers is KD 280.

He noted the Gulf countries — including Kuwait are required to fulfill certain terms and conditions before obtaining approval of the Indian Parliament and the Government to bring in female laborers after the cancellation of $2,500 guarantee/ security.

Al-Wehaib added the company is waiting for the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Indian Foreign Ministry to complete relevant procedures in order to receive the domestic workers by October 2017.

He ruled out the possibility of recruiting Arab domestic workers based on the decree of the Arab League banning such activities, although the decree excludes the families of diplomats and members of the ruling family.

The company has no intention to hire domestic workers from Europe except the Asian countries, indicating contracts were signed with India, Philippines and Sri Lanka for that purpose and the company will later resort to countries in Africa, he said.
