Siemens, global powerhouse in electronics and electrical engineering, is giving thrust in addressing challenges using digital technologies. As a frontrunner in the world of automation, Siemens is driving forward the process of digitalisation not only of its own businesses but across the whole of industry.
'Digitalisation is our biggest growth driver. As a global and leading company in many industries, we want to shape the digital transformation. That's why we want to further strengthen our position as a digital company and achieve double-digit growth in software, digital services and cloud platforms every year through 2020, Dietmar Siersdorfer (pictured), Chief Executive Officer of Siemens in the Middle East and UAE, told The Peninsula.
The company shows how its digital technologies can drive industries harnessing the digital enterprise to develop high-tech manufacturing with shorter time to market, greater flexibility and improved efficiency and quality.
Siemens has the capability for the full digital enterprise, cyber security, energy optimisation, industrialised 3D printing and product lifecycle management.
The focus is on the company's further expanded portfolio for the ‘Digital Enterprise', which links the virtual and real production worlds through the simulation of machines and plants using digital twins, or through its MindSphere, the cloud-based Internet of Things (IoT) operating system for industry, which helps businesses turn data into knowledge for measured business success.
The Digital Enterprise Suite is a comprehensive portfolio of integrated software and automation systems covering all the requirements of Industry 4.0. It enables manufacturing companies to digitalise and streamline their entire business processes, integrating suppliers and creating a digital representation of their entire value chain.
In fiscal 2016, Siemens generated a revenue of more than €1bn with digital services and around €3.3bn with software solutions, an increase of around 12 percent year-over-year, which is considerably above annual market growth of some eight percent.
Siemens is also planning to increase its investments in R & D in this fiscal year by some €300m to around €5bn.
