Paris, Dhu-AlHijjah 19, 1438, Sep 10, 2017, SPA -- A bomb-making workshop uncovered in a Paris suburb on Wednesday was accidentally found by two workmen called in by building managers, France's chief anti-terror prosecutor said.
Two men arrested in the aftermath of the find were placed under formal investigation Sunday on charges of association with terrorists and manufacturing an explosive device for terrorist purposes, Paris prosecutor Francois Molins announced.
Molins said that the workmen found a blue tarpaulin on the terrace of a rooftop flat in the southern suburb of Villejuif, containing "numerous bottles containing toxic products. Concerned by the potential danger of their discovery, they stopped work and immediately called the police."
Some 100 grams of TATP explosive was found on the scene, along with substances capable, according to initial estimates, of making another 3 to 4 kilograms of the substance. The 36-year-old owner of the flat, absent during the find, was arrested shortly afterwards, along with a companion. An associate of the owner, known to security services for suspected extremist views, was arrested that night.
The owner's associate, aged 37, admitted under questioning to planning an attack in France, Molins said. The owner admitted to attempting to make a bomb. Neither man admitted to planning an attack on any specific target.
The man initially arrested along with the tenant was released on Sunday without charges, dpa reported.
