Kuwait- Development projects should proceed unimpeded, says minister

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Sept 10 (KUNA) -- It is imperative for development projects to be completed in a timely and efficient manner without having to go through any hurdles, a Kuwaiti official said on Sunday.

Addressing the press on the sidelines of a workshop dealing with the country's development plans, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Hind Al-Sabeeh said that development projects are often dogged by obstacles.

Al-Sabeeh cited around 30 projects that have been encumbered by delays, 10 of which were thoroughly discussed during the workshop, while the remaining ones will be sorted out shortly, she said.

When asked whether she has reneged on a promise to hold senior officials accountable for stalled development projects, Al-Sabeeh said that all officials complicit in such practices were summoned by the Cabinet and subsequently forced into retirement.

On other issues discussed, Al-Sabeeh, who is also Minister of State for Economic Affairs, revealed that a plan to build a new research institute was now cleared, however, few hurdles still face a customs mall project.
