Jordan- King receives Japan's foreign minister


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Sept. 10 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah II on Sunday received Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono and discussed with him ways to cement strategic cooperation and ties between Jordan and Japan in various domains.

King Abdullah voiced appreciation for Japan's support to Jordan in many areas as well as assistance Tokyo extends to help the Kingdom continue providing humanitarian and relief assistance to the Syrian refugees.

The discussion tackled the latest developments in the Middle East, particularly efforts to push the peace process between the Palestinians and the Israelis forward, leading to serious and effective negotiations based on the two-state solution as the only way to resolve the conflict.

The meeting touched upon the "Peace and Prosperity" initiative launched by Japan about 10 years ago, in order to support efforts aimed at promoting peace in the region. In this context, His Majesty hailed the important role Japan plays to bring about regional and global peace.

They also discussed the Syrian crisis and efforts to find a political solution that would guarantee Syria's territorial integrity and the security of its people. The talks dealt with international and regional counterterror efforts.

The Japanese foreign minister expressed his country's appreciation for Jordan's efforts, spearheaded by His Majesty the King, to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East, as well as Jordan's humanitarian role towards the refugee crisis.
