Pakistan- 'Olive fruit worth millions perish every year in SWA'

WANA, September 10: Olive fruit worth millions of rupees perish every year due to lack of care and transportation facilities in South Waziristan Agency, residents of the agency complained. They said that the every year they face huge financial losses due to government negligence.

They said that the government didn't compensate them for the losses caused to olive orchards during years of military operations in the agency against terrorists.

The residents said that a large number of SWA was not only full of minerals but its maximum parts of its mountains consist of olive forests.

They said that every year fruit could not be transported to market and perish in the forests due to unavailability of transport facilities causing losses to locals as well as to national exchequer.

They said that environment of the agency was conducive for olive and demanded of the government to provide financial, technical and logistic assistance to them in this regard.
