Syrian army recaptures oilfield from IS in east

(MENAFN) The Syrian army recaptured an oilfield from IS near the eastern city of Deir al-Zor in more advances against the militants.

Recently, the army broke through IS lines in order to reach a government-held enclave of Deir al-Zor besieged for years by the jihadists.

Accordingly, advance would block potential Islamic State reinforcements from al-Mayadeen.

In the country, the group holds much of Deir al-Zor province and half the city, as well as a pocket of territory near Hama and Homs in the west of the nation.
