Russian FM arrives in Saudi Arabia for regional talks


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) JEDDAH, Sept 9 (KUNA) -- Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Saturday on the first stop of his Middle East mission, which includes Jordan, official media reported.

During his visit, Lavrov will hold talks with senior Saudi officials on recent situation developments in Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Libya, and Palestine, according to Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a news conference yesterday that Lavrov would hold talks with Saudi King Salman Bin Abdulaziz.

In Amman, he will also meet King Abdullah II, she said, noting that the talks would tackle regional issues namely efforts to establish de-conflicting zones in Syria and forming a unified delegation to represent the Syrian opposition in the peace talks.

Upon his arrival at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah today, the Russian foreign minister was received by his Saudi counterpart Adel Al-Jubeir. (end) nh.ma
