As many as 295,400 students in all government and private schools will resume their classes today at national level.
About 113,400 students will attend government schools at all levels while 182,000 students will rejoin classes in 265 private schools and kindergartens across the country, including 8,873 students who have registered to join government schools this academic year.
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education is all set to receive students after finishing all preparations to meet all requirements to assure effective beginning of the academic year, said Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs Fawzia Abdulaziz Al Khater (pictured). The Ministry will reopen the chance for admission on September 28, for students who have not registered before the previous deadline.
In a press statement about the preparations for the new academic year 2017-2018, Al Khater said that all measures to change the entire Independent Schools into government schools have been taken in accordance with the provisions of the law No 9/2017 on government schools.
According to the law, the Ministry of Education is responsible of settling all financial and administrative matters of these schools and meet their needs.
The Ministry has revealed that it has filled all academic and administrative vacancies and has managed to Qatarise nearly 80% of the senior and middle positions in public schools at the level of academic and administrative deputies and coordinators.
The Ministry has attracted the graduates of different programmes including 'Teach for Qatar , 'Tumoh program and graduates of the Faculty of Education at Qatar University, in addition to unspecialised teachers trained by the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs said the Assistant Undersecretary.
Some 201 teachers were recruited from Oman, Jordan, Tunisia and Sudan, she added. As part of the preparation for the academic year, the Ministry has transferred 147 teachers and 32 school principals to other schools whereas 264 teachers were appointed to schools for field educational enrichment, while eight administrative deputies were promoted to principals, said the statement.
The Ministry said Qatarisation is part of its plan to build national capacities in the field of education, to coincide with the directives of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, when he addressed citizens and residents in a speech in which he stressed the importance of self-reliance, diligence, creativity, independent thinking, constructive initiatives and interest in scientific achievement in all disciplines.
Fawzia Abdulaziz Al Khater pointed out that seven schools were opened at different education levels and different parts of Doha and have been fully furnished. Teachers and administrators have been trained in teaching methodologies based on projects learning and guides were prepared , and the subject of life skills will be introduced in schools.
Regarding integration of students with disabilities, Al Khater outlined that 50 schools will accommodate students and Al Noor Institute for Blinds has come under the Ministry of Education and the name has been changed into Al Noor School for Blinds.
