Kuwait- Zakat House helped pardon convicts


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Sept 9 (KUNA) -- Zakat House's humanitarian campaign last May resulted in releasing and pardoning 918 prisoners and convicts in civil cases, the Minister of Awqaf said on Saturday.

The house paid KD 1.172 million (USD 3.5 million) to cover debts of prisoners, said Mohammad Al-Jabri, also the Minister of Islamic Affairs and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs in a statement.

The humanitarian campaign coincided with fasting month of Ramadan.

Priority for paying the debts and lifting sentences was dedicated for mothers, women, those convicted in civil and personal status cases. (end) amn.rk
