Kuwait- Arab League eager to protect Iraq's sovereignty, says chief


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BAGHDAD, Sept 9 (KUNA) -- The Arab League will not compromise on Iraq's sovereignty, visiting Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Abul-Gheit said on Saturday.

As he met with Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi, Abul-Gheit said that the Arab League was keen on a more stable and secure Iraq, a government statement cited him as saying.

Their encounter also tackled the latest developments in the country, chiefly, the fight against terrorism.

The Arab League chief is expected to meet later on Saturday with the president of Iraq's Kurdistan Masoud Barzani, in a bid to settle a spat with Baghdad over a planned Kurdish independence referendum. (Pickup previous) ahh.nam
