Trump, Qatari Amir discuss need to defeat terrorism, cut its funding


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Sept 8 (KUNA) -- US President Donald Trump and Qatar's Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani discussed the importance of defeating terrorism, cutting off funding for terrorists and combating extremist ideology, the White House said on Friday.

"The president underscored the importance of all countries following through on commitments from the Riyadh Summit to maintain unity while defeating terrorism, cutting off funding for terrorist groups and combating extremist ideology," the announcement said.

They also discussed the continued threat Iran poses to regional stability, the statement said.

The Riyadh Summit, held in May, underlined the importance of countering terrorism in all its forms, and tackling its idealogical root causes and sources of funding. (end) rm.sd
