Kuwait- Roadside blast kills 5 border policemen in W. Afghanistan


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISLAMABAD, Sep 8 (KUNA) -- At least five Afghan border policemen were killed and two others wounded after their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in Afghanistan's western Farah province near the Iran-Afghan border, an official said Friday.

The blast took place in Pashmaki area near the border of Iran, killing at least five Afghan border police officers and wounding two others, Provincial governor's spokesman Nasir Mehri told reporters.

The injured officers were taken to the civil hospital in the Farah city, the provincial capital, Mehri said, adding that he vehicle was entirely destroyed in the blast.

According to local media, Taliban rebels have claimed the responsibility of the attack saying that the blast killed six border policemen. (end) sbk.ma
