KUWAIT CITY, Sept 7: Two patrol officers have been arrested for the death of two Kuwaiti citizens after the car of the latter crashed and erupted into flames. According to a security source, the traffic accident occurred on the Sixth Ring Road opposite Saad Al-Abdullah Academy. Fire had engulfed a sports car, resulting in the death of two citizens who were trapped inside the car.

One of them was born in 1986 and the other in 1996. When securitymen and paramedics arrived at the location, they discovered that both victims had succumbed to the severe burns and injuries they sustained.

Two other citizens went to a nearby police station to report that they saw two patrol vehicles chase the victims' car from First Ring Road until the location when the car crashed into a concrete wall and burst into flames, which resulted in the death of the driver and his passenger. They also reported that the patrol vehicles fled from the location after the accident. One of the patrol vehicles was driven by a police officer and the other by an officer of rank 'Lance Corporal'.

The source revealed that Investigator of Shuwaikh Police Station has detained both officers, adding that a case has been filed against them and referred to the Public Prosecution. He explained that instructions were issued to all patrol teams to refrain from chasing reckless and careless drivers in order to avoid dangerous consequences which could expose the lives of those drivers and other road users to danger. They should instead record the number plates of the cars of careless drivers and follow them up without chasing them. The source indicated that a similar decision had been issued in the past.
