Due to adverse weather conditions, Qatar Airways has cancelled flights from Doha to Miami and Miami to Doha on September 9 and 10.
This was announced by the airline on their website and social media pages today.
Irma, one of three hurricanes churning toward North America, is forecast to hit Florida by Sunday afternoon. A mandatory evacuation order has been issued for some areas including downtown Miami and Miami Beach.
Qatar Airways announced that 'flights QR 777 from Doha to Miami and QR 778 from Miami to Doha are cancelled for 9 and 10 September, due to adverse weather conditions.
The airline further said on the website that 'passengers holding tickets to or from Miami are advised to contact their local booking agent and to check the Flight Status tab on the Qatar Airways website for the latest updates.
Qatar Airways operates an Airbus 350-900 daily to Miami.
In an earlier report Associated Press said that airlines are preparing to cancel Florida flights that are in the path of Hurricane Irma.
The hurricane is expected to reach Florida by the weekend. American Airlines says it will begin shutting down operations in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Sarasota and West Palm Beach by Friday afternoon and cancel flights through the weekend.
JetBlue Airways said Wednesday afternoon that it had canceled about 130 flights.
FlightAware.com reported that about 170 flights, roughly two-thirds of those scheduled, were canceled by late Wednesday afternoon at Luis Munoz Marin Airport International Airport near San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Cancellations at Miami International Airport were minimal on Wednesday but already topped 300 flights for Friday, according to the tracking service.
