Jordan- King receives Norway Crown Prince


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Sept. 6 (Petra) - His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday received Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Norway, Haakon, and discussed with him ways to promote economic and military cooperation between Jordan and Norway and encourage Norwegian investments in the renewable energy sector in Jordan.

The meeting touched on the Sahara project, an eco-project co-funded by the European Union and the Kingdom of Norway to grow vegetables, generate power form solar energy and produce freshwater in the Aqaba desert.

The King and Prince Haakon discussed the repercussions of the Syrian refugee crisis on Jordan and stressed the need for the international community to increase its support to the Kingdom to enable it to deal with major burdens arising from this crisis.

In this context, His Majesty expressed his appreciation for Norway's support to Jordan in development sectors and in providing humanitarian and relief services to refugees.

The discussion also dealt with the current regional developments, particularly efforts aimed at re-launching the peace process between the Palestinians and Israelis based on the two-state solution, which is the only way to resolve the conflict.

They also reviewed ways to find a political solution to the crisis in Syria, that guarantees the territorial integrity of Syria and the security of its people. They also tackled counterterror efforts.

Prince Haakon emphasized that his country's was keen to strengthen cooperation with Jordan in various fields, expressing Norway's appreciation for Jordan's role, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, to achieve security and stability in the region.
