Eid Al Adha Festival, organised by the celebrations committee at the Private Engineering Office at Souq Waqif and Souq Al Wakrah over five days, has concluded after featuring a series of cultural and entertainment events for all family members.
The festival attracted thousands of crowds from citizens, residents and visitors in Souq Waqif, with the events including more than 30 games such as football, basketball and shooting competitions as well as entertainment contests such as trampoline and swings in addition to electronic games, making the festival suitable for all age groups and a chance for entertainment for all members of the family not the young ones.
In addition, Souq Waqif Art Center organized a number of artistic events, including Es'hail Star event in which a group of fine artists participated to present art works on marine creatures in Qatar. The center also held a workshop on the making of paper puppet and another on making transparent roses, in addition to displaying embalmed Qatari marine creature.
In Souq Al Wakrah, the festival also attracted thousands to the Eid tent where the atmosphere was largely similar to that in Souq Waqif, with people visiting the site from Al Wakrah, southern regions as well as Doha and its suburbs.
Speaking to QNA, Souq Al Wakrah Director Khalid Saif Al Suwaidi said that data indicate that the festival has attracted 5,000 to 6,000 visitors every day, adding that it managed to achieve its goal in entertaining all family members, especially since it is the only event that provides entertainment activities for residents of the southern regions and the areas near Al Wakrah.
Al Suwaidi said that the variety in activities for different age groups also contributed to the success of the festival, noting that Souq Al Wakrah management allowed people with disabilities to enter and participate in the different competitions for free, while a number of games was also available for families at no charge. Families were also able to use the beaches for swimming while enjoying the other facilities available there.
He added that Souq Al Wakrah's management will start soon preparations for February festival, which would be a source of entertainment for everyone in Qatar.
