Germany says its jailed citizen in Turkey set free

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BERLIN, Sept 4 (KUNA) -- The German Foreign Ministry on Monday said Turkish authorities have released a German citizen who was arrested in Ankara for "political reasons".

The ministry said in a statement that the freed citizen's lawyer had told it that Turkish judicial authorities freed the Turkish-German citizen unconditionally.

This has brought the total number of German citizens arrested in Turkey for "political reasons" down to 11.

The recent arrest of German citizens in Turkey has added tension to the increasingly fractious relationship between Berlin and Ankara.

Relations between Germany and Turkey have been in a downward spiral since last summer, when a failed coup was launched against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. (end) anj.mt
