Crowds throng Eid events across Qatar

An array of colourful shows at dozens of indoor and outdoor venues offered quality entertainment to a large number of visitors on the second day of Eid Al Adha, including tourists from Kuwait, Oman and Turkey.

Eid festivities were held with fervour from Al Wakrah Sports Club Stadium to Katara Cultural Village and several children-specific attractions drew families to the Summer Entertainment City and various malls across the country.

At Katara, visitors were entertained with a range of amusement activities, especially shadow performances inspired by the region's history and heritage. Theatre performances based on the ‘Tales of the Arabian Nights' were the main attraction.

The shadow theatre performances are based on the Arabian tales, the history of the ‘Roman Empire', ‘Alice in Wonderland' and the all-time favourite, ‘Aladdin'.

Apart from shadow performances, live acrobatic shows were staged. The organisers also presented gifts to children.
The Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs organised ‘Eid Al Adha Celebrations for Communities' at Asian Town where Indian and Bangladeshi artistes staged a range of musical and cultural shows.

Pakistani expatriates, particularly migrant workers, spent the second day of Eid at the Al Wakrah Sports Club Stadium watching performances of Pakistani showbiz stars Shahid Ali Khan, Khwaja Masoud, Nadiya Gul, Deepa and Mariya Khan.

Meanwhile, visitors arriving from Kuwait, Oman and Turkey to celebrate Eid Al Adha in Qatar were treated to a special reception at Hamad International Airport.

Saif Al Kuwari, Director of PR and Communication at Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA), commented, 'Eid is about creating and sharing memorable moments with family, neighbours and friends, and we are delighted to uphold the tradition once again this Eid by welcoming our brothers and sisters from Oman, Kuwait and Turkey at Hamad International Airport.

He added: 'We are particularly excited to have them join us for the fun and joyful season that coincides with the last week of Qatar Summer Festival, which boasts a wide variety of attractive hospitality, entertainment and retail options throughout the country.

Qatar Summer Festival's participating malls also staged a number of free entertainment shows for shoppers and families looking for indoor fun in the evening.

Tom & Jerry shows amused children at Doha Festival City, attracting a large number of families, while residents also enjoyed the journey to Neverland with Peter Pan's hour-long performances at Lagoona Mall.

Ezdan Mall's 'Tamim Al Majd: Story of A Country theatre show was also a big hit which was watched by a large number of citizens and expatriates.

A number of families headed to the Sealine Beach, Aqua Park, Aspire Park, Souq Waqif and Souq Waqif at Al Wakrah for a variety of outdoor activities.

Today, the third summer edition of Doha Comedy Festival will be held, bringing together a diverse line-up of stand-up comedy stars.

The show featuring Mo Amer, Maz Jobrani, Nemr Nemr, Vir Das and Qatar's very own stand-up comedy pioneer, Hamad Al Ammari, is set to be held at Qatar National Convention Center and will begin at 8pm.

The Summer Entertainment City offered unique roaming and colourful parades, theatre plays, extreme sports acrobatics, Arabic folk dance ‘Dabka,' and ‘Musical Chairs' etc.

The Barwa Baraha hosted Sri Lankan, Bangladeshi and Indian cultural shows while the Barwa Workers Recreation Complex at Al Khor organised cultural shows by Asian artistes in Hindi, Urdu, Nepali, Malayalam, and Tamil languages.

An array of cultural activities at the Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani (FBQ) Museum also attracted visitors.

Activities included special tours on Indian objects, Qatari heritage, Persian objects and a specific tour on one of the unique pieces of the museum — the double-sided carpet.
