Qatar- 'Eid Al Adha Celebrations for Communities' at Asian Town

It was an amusement-cum-awareness event for migrant workers at Asian Town where the authorities with the help of animated videos and stage-shows tried educating thousands of workers about law of the land and labour-related issues like safety and security.

A two-day event 'Eid Al Adha Celebrations for Communities is being organised by the Ministry of Interior (MOI) in collaboration with Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA) for expatriate communities.

Several artistes of Indian, Bangladeshi and Nepali origins presented cultural programmes including singing, dancing and stage shows.

The representatives of the said ministries gave presentations creating safety and security awareness among workers on work sites and accommodations.

An official from the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs used animated videos showing how workers could avoid accidents on work sites by wearing safety kits.

A number of stage shows were held to educate workers about Qatari law related to drug trafficking, visa fraud and traffic safety.

The workers were told to not bring gifts packets given by their countrymen to handover their relatives or friends in Qatar without making thoroughly inspecting the contents. Otherwise, they could land in trouble if the packets have substances of drugs.

'We tried to interact directly with workers through awareness programmes because those who do not read newspapers can benefit from such programs, Captain Hadi Mohammed Al Hajri, Director of the Security Media Department of MoI's Public Relations told The Peninsula.

He said that the Eid Al Adha Celebrations for communities aimed at creating awareness among workers on different issues.

Regarding the participation of MOI in the event, Al Hajari said: 'Many departments of the Ministry of Interior including traffic, civil defense, Al Fazaa police, community police, search and follow up department, human rights department, and Emergency service 999 and public relations department of the Ministry are participating to create awareness in their respective areas.

To a question about compliance by the companies of labor law and other safety and security regulations, he said that companies were complying and ‘we are trying to make them more adhere to the law.

The event was attended by many senior officials including Brigadier Abdullah Khalifa Al Muftah, Director of Public Relations department of the Ministry of Interior.
