South African movie mogul A B Moosa has underlined the urgent need to support underprivileged children around the world through the Listen Campaign - a global initiative involving renowned celebrities slated to be launched next year.

Moosa was recently in Qatar to promote the initiative which is set to utilise the power of creative artists, media, and creative industries towards the benefit of the vulnerable and disadvantaged children around the world.

'This is my third visit to Qatar for the global initiative called Listen which I am a part of and aims to address the needs and rights of the world's most disadvantaged children. There are a billion kids in the world today who are victims of war, poverty, hunger, among the many challenges, said Moosa, who acts as the director of Listen Campaign.

He was speaking to local media on the sidelines of the screening of One Humanity, which he co-produced. The movie, which was shown at Katara, was a moving feature documentary on Nelson Mandela and how two star-studded concerts that were broadcast around the world in 1988 and 1990 played a vital role in directing world focus on the Apartheid regime in South Africa finally leading to its fall.

'The film gives context to how the political landscape was happening in South Africa and how artists from around the world came together to help put pressure on the world for the fall of apartheid, said Moosa, adding the film inspired the Listen Campaign.

'This feature documentary was produced as an example to show how when artists come together they can change the world. In the Listen Campaign we have global artists like Samuel L Jackson, Ashely Judd, Natalie Portman and Brooke Shields, to name a few and we are still mobilizing global artists from South Africa, India and other parts of the world as part of a global movement, he explained.

He added that the team who put the Mandela event together in Wembley Stadium, which the film was about, was the same team putting the Listen Campaign together.

'This will be an annual global media event to create awareness and showcase solutions for the young victims in the world who have these various needs and how we can change their lives, he said.

'Listen is about celebrating our common humanity, looking at people as one humanity who breathe the same air and doing something for children who are innocent victims of these challenges, he ended.

The film screening was organised by the South African Embassy in partnership with Katara and the embassies of India, Cuba, Algeria, Ethiopia and Palestine.
