Delhiites will have to pay more for electricity from September

The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has hiked the electricity charges in the city, introducing a surcharge of 3.7% from September, in addition to the existing 8% cess.

There's no change in user charges, but fixed charges for 1kW were halved while that of 2kW connections remain same.

Fixed charges for 3kW, 4kW, and 5kW connections were hiked.

Fight over drugs: Boy killed in front of his mother

A 16-year-old boy, allegedly addicted to inhaling adhesive-based sulochen solution, has been stabbed to death by his friends in Delhi's Kabir Nagar.

Police said the boy was murdered in front of his mother due to a fight over sharing of drugs.

The alleged killer is a 17-year-old while another adult friend egged him on to kill the victim; both of them were held.


Delhi: Dead girl's kidneys save two lives

A 19-year-old girl from Delhi's Chhattarpur, Shakuntala, died at Safdarjung Hospital after consuming poison.

Her parents agreed for organ donation; her kidneys were transplanted to save two patients suffering from renal disorders.

Safdarjung Hospital's Professor and Head of Urology and Renal Transplantation, Dr. Anup Kumar, said this could be the world's first organ transplant from a patient who suffered poisoning and cardiac death.

While hearing a petition by an NGO Delhi Rozi Roti Adhikar Abhiyan, Delhi HC stated it would ensure no one in Delhi sleeps hungry, and everyone gets a ration.

The petitioner and concerned authorities were asked by the court to suggest a mechanism for the same.

The NGO said some slum dwellers are unable to get subsidized foodgrains as they have no Aadhaar cards.


Delhiites can finally say goodbye to crowded buses!

Delhi's AAP government finally approved a proposal for the procurement of 2,000 buses on Delhi's roads after a three-year delay.

While 1,000 buses would be low-floor ones for the state-run Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), the other 1,000 would be cluster buses for Delhi Integrated Multi-modal Transit System (DIMTS).

Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot tweeted these non-AC buses would be rolled out in a year.

Three dead as car catches fire due to CNG-kit malfunction

Three men from Gurugram's Palda village were burnt to death near the city's Lemon Tree Hotel as the car they were traveling in had caught fire allegedly due to CNG kit malfunctions.

Within ten minutes, the car, a Maruti Esteem, was gutted before fire officials could reach the place.

The deceased were identified as 38-year-olds Gajendra and Devendra and 28-year-old Narendra.
