(MENAFN- The Peninsula) ISTANBUL: At least 14 people were killed and another 42 injured Tuesday when a passenger bus collided into a car in Egypt's central Beni Sueif province.
Egypt's official MENA news agency quoted Health Ministry sources as saying that the deadly accident had occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
According to the ministry, the collision, which involved a tourist bus and a passenger car, caused both vehicles to plunge off a bridge near the entrance of Beni Sueif city.
Health Ministry spokesman Khaled Mogahed was quoted as saying that 10 dead bodies had been taken to Beni Sueif's state-run General Hospital and four others to the nearby Nasser Central Hospital.
'Three others who were seriously injured are currently in intensive care, Mogahed said.
Earlier this month, at least 49 people were killed -- and dozens more injured -- when two passenger trains collided in the coastal city of Alexandria.
Egypt has seen numerous road and rail accidents in recent years, due largely to what critics describe as mismanagement and antiquated infrastructure.
