Doha: Vice President of Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al Thani (pictured) on Monday expressed his delight upon the successful conclusion of the 2017 IHF Super Globe in Doha.
After awarding the trophy to Barcelona, His Excellency said that the State of Qatar proved once again that it was a safe country. He also praised the organisation of the competition, describing it as high-class.
The QOC Vice-President also added that the participation of a host of the best handball teams in the world reflects the status the State of Qatar enjoys in the sport. He added that the committee was always proud of Qatar's distinguished ability in hosting different sporting events. Qatar Olympic Committee's Vice President offered his congratulations to the winners, stressing that the competition was a success technically and in terms of organisation.
Meanwhile, the President of the Qatari Handball Association (QHA) Ahmed Al Shaabi said that the State of Qatar's success in hosting the competition was nothing new, as the country has done so well in previous international competitions.
He extended congratulations to winners Barcelona, wishing the other teams better fortunes in future competitions.
He added that the next edition of the competition in 2018 will also take place in Qatar before another country hosts the tournament the following year.
He highlighted that Qatar raised the bar when it came to organising the competition, something he believes benefit the sport of handball which is progressing in all other areas.
On Al Sadd's participation, Al Shaabi said that they were not pleased with the performance of the club in the competition.
However he said that the main reason behind their underperformance was sanctions that prevented the team from adding the necessary talent to its squad. Al Sadd won its first match.
They lost the other two however, which were against title holders Fuchse Berlin and champions of Europe Vardar.
