Qatar- Cabinet okays several draft agreements

Doha, Qatar: A draft resolution on extending the deadline given to those who are addressed by provisions of Law No. (13) of 2016 on the protection of the privacy of personal data has been extended for six months. The Cabinet's weekly meeting yesterday took the necessary measures to ratify an agreement on the Promotion and Protection of Mutual Investments between Qatar and the Government of the Republic of Uganda.

As well necessary measures to ratify a MoU for Cooperation in the Field of Agriculture between Qatar and Uganda and MoU on the conduct of political consultations on issues of common concern between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uganda.

The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani. Following the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs H E Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud said that the Cabinet reviewed topics on the meeting's agenda including approval of a draft resolution on the decision of the Minister of Municipality and Environment to issue a regulation of the registration system for private laboratories.

The Cabinet also approved the ratification of the Statute of the Islamic Organization for Food Security of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (IOFS). The organisation aims at providing its members with technical experience and knowledge on various aspects of sustainable agriculture, rural development, food security and biotechnology and assessing and monitoring the food security situation in the Member States in coordination with them to identify and provide emergency and humanitarian assistance, mobilise and manage financial and agricultural resources for the development of agriculture and enhance food security in the member states. The Cabinet approved a draft agreement for cooperation in the fields of physical education and sport between Qatar and the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The meeting approved the hosting of the 5th session of the Qatari-Sudanese High Joint Committee in Doha, on October 16-17, as well to hold the first meeting of the Joint Ministerial Committee on Economic, Trade and Technical Cooperation between Qatar and the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland in London on October 4. The Cabinet reviewed the 19th report on the results of the work of the National Counter-Terrorism Committee during the period from October 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017 and took the appropriate decision.

The committee was established by the Ministry of the Interior and it is responsible for formulating policies, plans and programmes to combat terrorism and coordinating efforts among all concerned entities in the State to implement the obligations contained in the resolutions of the UN Security Council and the UN resolutions related to combating terrorism. According to the report, the Committee participated in several Arab and international meetings on combating terrorism. The Committee affirmed that Qatar has adopted a clear position in the fight against terrorism and extremism. The first semi-annual report for 2017 on the results of the work of the Standing Committee for Water Resources for the period from 1/1 to 30/6/2017 was also reviewed by the Cabinet meeting.
