Amman, Aug. 30 (Petra) -- Jordan and Iraq Wednesday celebrated the reopening of the Turaibil border crossing between the two countries for the first time since 2015 due to security conditions experienced in Iraq.

"Fortunately, we meet today to celebrate the defeating (Daesh) outlaws; gangs of murder and crime, and the opening of this post is the fruit of these achievements", said Interior Minister Ghaleb Zoubi while addressing Jordanian and Iraqi officials.

He added that the victories you accomplished by Iraqis in Tal Afar, Mosul, and Anbar (battles) are a clear message to the extremist cliques wherever they may be.

The minister pointed out that "This lifeline border crossing would remain a witness to what unites us, adding that Jordan and Iraq are each other's strategic depth".

He also emphasized that Jordan stands by Iraq in various conditions.

He concluded that " I warmly commend your achievements and together with you I announced the reopening of our land boundary between our brotherly countries".
