Jordan, Iraq reopen Turaibil border crossing

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Aug. 30 (Petra)--Jordan and Iraq have decided to reopen the Turaibil border crossing as of today.

A joint statement by the Jordanian and Iraqi governments said that the two countries reopened the border crossing as part of their efforts and keenness to forge closer bilateral ties in all fields.

The statement said that the step was also taken after major victories that have been achieved by the Iraqi armed forces against the Daesh terrorist group that led to the return of normal life to Iraq cities and border areas.

It said the border crossing was reopened after the international highway was secured, adding that the measure will further boost relations between the two countries, mainly in the trade, economic and humanitarian fields, as it would facilitate the movement of citizens and goods from both directions.

"The two governments pledged that they would exert further efforts to ensure a smooth movement of goods and citizens from both sides of the border," it added.

The statement noted that the reopening of the border crossing will serve the interests of peoples and boost security, stability and development in the two neighboring countries.
