Azerbaijani theater awarded at Caspian Theatre Festival

The first International Theatre Festival of the Caspian States was held in Aktau, Kazakhstan, on August 24-28.

The cultural event was dedicated to the 80th birthday of People's Artist of Kazakhstan, Asanali Ashimov.

The festival aimed to strengthen cultural ties among theaters of Caspian littoral countries and encourage new initiatives in the field of theater through the creation of the infrastructure necessary to carry out joint projects.

Theatres from Kazakhstan, Russia, Iran, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Turkey took part in the festival.

The troupe of theAzerbaijani StateYugh Theater was awarded in the "Khazar Renaissance" nomination, Report.az informs.

The State Yugh Theatre was founded in 1989 under the Academic National Drama Theatre by actor and director Vaghif Ibraghimoglu.

The theatre's poetics are based on the synthesis of ancient Turkic ceremony of 'yuglama a solemn funeral feast in honour of fallen hero accompanied by the music played on gopuz and saz, shamanistic traditions and principles of modern European theatrical avant-garde.

The theatre staged more than 70 plays. According to the appropriate decision of the Azerbaijan Ministry of Culture and Tourism, from February 2016, theatre's creative activities continue in Azerbaijan State Puppet Theatre.
