Doha: The Minister of Municipality and Environment H E Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi has issued a ministerial decision, extending the ban on herding camels for two years across the country, starting August 24, 2017 until August 23, 2019.

The decision follows the positive results of the ban in the previous years in terms of allowing trees and plants to grow well and green areas to recover.

In this regard, the Ministry said that Qatar's wild environment and the sensitivity of green areas require protection and that is why the ban on camel herding, especially that precipitation rates in the past few years were average. The ministry praised farm owners' understanding of the rationale behind the decision, which indicates their awareness of the need to preserve Qatar's wild environment.

The ministry added that patrols of its Department of Protection and Wildlife will follow up on the compliance of farm owners to the ban and called on them to cooperate with it and comply with the extension decision so as to preserve the country's wild environment. The ministry said it will take legal measures against those who violate the decision.
