Sudan, Libya agree to boost joint border security

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KHARTOUM, Aug 27 (KUNA) -- Sudan and Libya expressed Sunday keenness on boosting their joint cooperation on border security, and implementing agreements signed between them.

Sudan's efforts are ongoing to support the Libyan people, Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir said in joint press conference with Libyan Prime Minister Fayez Al-Sarraj.

Sudan hopes to see all Libyans, from various ethnic backgrounds, work closely on bolstering their unity and backing stability, security, and the peace process in their country, said Al-Bashir.

Al-Sarraj's visit marks a new phase in the two countries' relationship, he said, adding that Khartoum has no agendas on Tripoli but the country's unity and people's interests.

Meanwhile, the Sudanese president expressed his sorrow over the recent escalation of violence in Libya, and the negative impacts resulted by such developments on his own country, including illegal immigration, of which transient criminals and mercenaries are mostly produced.

For his part, the Libyan premier stressed the importance of boosting border security between his country and Sudan, pointing out Khartoum's strategic significance to Tripoli, particularly on bilateral cooperation.

Libya's current political and security challenges and divisions would not affect its relations with Sudan, he affirmed, adding that the crisis could be resolved through national reconciliation. (end) mmm.ma
