Suicide car bombing kills 13 people S. Afghanistan

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISLAMABAD, Aug 27 (KUNA) -- At least 13 Afghans, including amry soldiers, were killed and 30 others wounded when a car bombing struck an army convoy in the southern Helmand province late Sunday.

Omer Zwak, spokesman of the provincial governor, said a suicide bomber detonated his explosive-laden car as the Afghan National Army convoy passed a small market at Dwa Pula area in Nawa District of Helmand. Civilians and military personnel were among the casualties; the majority of the dead belong to Afghan forces and most of the wounded are civilians, Zwak told the media.

Nawa district chief Agha Mohammad confirmed the attack, saying that there was no security post in the area and the attacker apparently targeted security forces on a patrol. Taliban rebels have reportedly took responsibility for the bombing that came days after US President Donald Trump announced his new strategy for Afghanistan envisaging continued military presence in the country.
