Oman- MoTC suspends OTaxi operations

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) has suspended the operations of OTaxi, an app-based taxi service operated by a group of young Omanis.

Announcing the ministry's decision on its official Twitter account on Sunday, OTaxi stated, 'MoTC has announced an immediate suspension of our app-based service. We thank all for the opportunity to serve them.'

OTaxi had about 100 drivers working for them and it was the first such app-based taxi service in the country modelled on the lines of Uber.

The OTaxi app had several features like the approximate time a taxi will take to reach the pick-up point, tracking software, routes taken to reach the destination, time taken and total fare.

According to the developer, the service was suspended because the operators did not have an official authorisation. They plan to get a licence and then resume their operations.

The service mainly focused in the Muscat area and the drivers were available 24x7 through the OTaxi app.
