US firm keen on setting up IT centre in Oman to serve MENA region


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- A delegation representing Capital Data Centers, Inc of the US has expressed its desire to set up an IT centre in the sultanate to serve the needs of the MENA region.

The US delegation was in the sultanate as part of a visit programme organised by Ithraa in cooperation with the Commercial Attaché Office in Washington.

The visit which concluded on Saturday began on August 18. It aimed at advising investors of the investment environment in the sultanate and the facilities provided in many sectors. The visit programme included visits to several public and private organisations, as well as investment funds.

The delegation also met a number of communication companies. Talib bin Saif al Makhmari, director general of marketing and media at Ithraa said that the visit also highlighted the available investment opportunities in the prioritised sectors during the upcoming stage. Since the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the sultanate and US came into force on January 1, 2009, 460 US companies have been registered in the sultanate as of 2014.

Statistics point out that the value of US foreign direct investment in the sultanate stood at RO245.7mn in 2013. The key US investments in the sultanate include Occidental Oman, Octal, GlassPoint, Dover Energy and VFT Global.
