Population in Pakistan tops 207mn

(MENAFN) Pakistan's population has jumped by more than half to 207mn, according to provisional results of the nation's first census in almost two decades.

Meanwhile, an average annual increase of 2.4 percent was exposed since 1998, when the whole population was put at 132.35mn.

The country had not held a census for almost two decades due to years of bickering by politicians concerned it could redraw the political map.

In addition, Central Punjab province remained far and away the most populated, home to more than 110mn people or more than half the nation.
