Polluted egg scare spread in Netherlands farms


(MENAFN) Dutch government released data showing that the contaminated egg scare had cost the poultry in Netherlands at least USD39mln (33mln euros).

The problem started by the presence of the insecticide fipronil in eggs, which had spread to 18 countries in Europe and reached Hong Kong.

Health Minister Edith Schippers said: "Direct costs to the (Dutch) poultry sector where fipronil was used are estimated at 33 million euros."

Overall, poultry farms had suffered damages worth 120,000 to 200,000 euros initially.
