Trade deficit in Bangladesh to recover due to rice imports


(MENAFN) Imports of Bangladesh had increased more than 37% to USD4.50bln in July, the first month of the next fiscal year; while rice imports grew significantly due to floods hit the country.

According to an official in the central bank, imports were pushed by the increased importation of rice during the previous month.

Also he said that imports quickened last month, outpacing exports as domestic demand or garment items and capital machinery propelled the overall economic growth.

Moreover, rice imports increased to more than 200% to a record USD69.63mln in the last month against USD21.17mln in the previous month.
