Kuwait- Top officer, 5 expats probed in funds scam


(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY, Aug 23:Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Khalid Al-Jarrah has ordered to refer a senior police officer and five expatriates of different nationalities to the Public Prosecution for allegedly embezzling about KD one million from the Police Cooperative Society, reports Al-Rai daily.

The sources said the theft happened during the past ten months and was done in a very professional manner, and although the Board of Directors of the society was formed a year ago, the theft was discovered by the treasurer Colonel Fawaz Al-Roumi.

The sources pointed out the discovery of the theft prompted the Board of Directors to make an extensive audit. In this context, the sources revealed another embezzlement of about KD 2 million which happened months ago at the social security fund (financial sector) at the Ministry of Interior, which is similar to the staff support fund, paid to the military and employees as pensions after the end of their service.

Forgers arrested: Security operatives raided an illegal printing press in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh area and apprehended a gang of eight expatriates from different nationalities specialized in forging stamps, official documents and receipts for clients who are mostly domestic workers (visa 20 holders).

An Interior Ministry press release said the raid followed a tip-off public security sector received about the activities of a gang forging official stamps and documents at an underground printing press in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh area.

The officers retrieved details of their clients, including expatriates registered under the sponsorship of various private sector companies. Meanwhile, securitymen affiliated to the Residency Affairs Department discovered 10 illusory companies having 69 expatriates under their sponsorship
