Margvelashvili: Azerbaijanis prove they are Georgians' true friends

Georgian President Georgi Margvelashvili has expressed gratitude to firefighters from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Armenia and Belarus for their help in extinguishing fire in Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park, Samtskhe-Javakheti region.

The Georgian president visited the area on Wednesday morning and familiarized with the situation, Sputnik-Georgia reported on August23.

The fire broke out on August 20 near the village of Daba in the Borjomi Gorge. So far, the weather conditions prevent a complete suppression of the fire.

Currently, six helicopters and a special airplane are taking part in extinguishing the forest fires.

Two helicopters belong to the border police of Georgia, another one to the rescue service of Azerbaijan, two helicopters and a plane were sent by Turkey to Georgia, and one helicopter belongs to Belarus. Azerbaijan also sent its firemen to Georgia.

Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Emergency Situations sent a helicopter to Georgia on August 21 to help extinguish forest fires in Borjomi-Kharagauli Reserve under directions of President Aliyev.

The Ka-32A firefighting helicopter started exploration flights in Samtskhe-Javakheti region and joined the operation to tackle the fire at 06:40 local time on August 22.
