Oman- Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup: Al Faisal confident ahead of Spa races

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman's talented racer Al Faisal al Zubair is high on confidence after a strong testing session at the famed Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium recently.

Al Faisal will be back at the same circuit this Friday as he tackles round seven and eight of the Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup over the weekend.

The 6.973km circuit, which will host the weekend's Belgian Formula One Grand Prix, will also be the venue for twin 30-minute Porsche races on Saturday and Sunday.

Al Faisal, a Lechner Racing Middle East team driver, will aim to add to the points tally he has scored in three of the six rounds on his debut season.

'We carried out a one-day test at Spa and it was very positive,' said FZ Racing's Al Faisal.

'But it was a wet session, so I am not sure how the forecast will be during the race. If we have dry conditions, it will be my first time driving in the dry at Spa. But if it is going to be wet conditions, then I think it will give me a very good feeling. The time during testing was competitive and I feel that is a good way to learn on a circuit. Now I am ready for it.

'I have finished in the top 15 of the last few races and we finished in the top ten in the previous race. I will try my best to be in the top ten at Spa, which may help me increase my points tally in the championship.'

German driver Michael Ammermüller arrives in Belgium with a 14-point lead over Dennis Olsen in the standings, with Daniel Cammish in third and Matt Campbell and Robert Lukas rounding off the top five.

Al Faisal is 14th in the overall championship table with 14 points after his performance in Budapest and moved up a place to seventh in the rookie standings.

Amid a hectic schedule on the renowned Belgian circuit, Porsche Super Cup drivers will get their first opportunity to practice on Friday evening.

The 30-minute qualifying session is scheduled on Saturday morning and the first of the weekend's two races will take centrestage over 11 laps on Saturday evening. Race two will be held the next morning.
