US to stand by Afghan nation till the end: Ghani

(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Tuesday said the United States would be standing by the Afghan nation till the end without any timeline.

The president, who visited southern Kandahar province, was accompanied by a number of Cabinet members, Wolesi Jirga members and influential elders.

Military personnel, religious scholars, influential figures, women and youth were present at the gathered addressed by the president at the Afghanistan National Army (ANA)€™s 205th Atal Military Corps compound at the Kandahar Airport.

At the outset, Ghani started his speech by referring to US President Donald Trump€™s remarks he made on Tuesday morning while presenting the new US strategy on Afghanistan.

€œIt€™s a special day today, the American President a few hours earlier made his speech. There would be no more time-based condition and the US will stand by the Afghan national till the end.€

He thanked the American President, Cabinet and politicians for sincerely standing by Afghanistan, saying the new strategy showed US determination€™s to peace in Afghanistan. €œI have a clear message for insurgents. You cannot win the war; you should take the path of reconciliation.€

The president said there would be no lack of equipment in the fight against terrorists and all issues that existed over the past two and a half years would be eradicated.

€œOver the past 60 and especially the past 40 years, it is for the first time a neighboring country of ours is given a clear message that it couldn€™t harbor terrorists.€

€œOur message in this regard is also very clear that we want everlasting peace with Pakistan. A calm and developed Afghanistan is no threat to anyone.€

The president called upon the Pakistani nation to put pressure on their government and military to take the hand of peace extended by Afghanistan.

Ghani called Kandahar as the country€™s political heart, saying if this heart was unstable, then all the body would be restless. He asked Kandahar elders and religious scholars to come forward and hoist the flag of peace and national unity.

He also congratulated Kandahar residents over the country€™s 98th Independence Day, saying Ghazi Amanullah Khan€™s mission was incomplete and had that mission been completed, the country would not have experienced the 40 years of crisis. €œWe will finish what our heroes had started,€ Ghani concluded.
