(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): Some political experts on Tuesday said the new US strategy on Afghanistan and Pakistan would help bring stability to the region.
Malak Setaiz, an international affairs expert, US President Donald Trump had presented more €˜reasonable€™ strategy than what analysts predicted. He said Trump preferred US national interests in the region and removed the concept of an US unpredictable presence in the region.
on his social media account, Setaiz wrote Trump had exposed Pakistan€™s actual role in the region and stressed an active Indian economic cooperation in Afghanistan, something the Afghan authorities had wished.
He said it was now up to the government of Afghanistan to forge its regional policy more effectively in the region.
Javed Kohistani, another expert, said the US new strategy had been formulated after long discussions and a decisive position had been taken against Pakistan.
He said the new strategy was more focused on elimination of terrorists and an undecided timeline for withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan was considered keeping in view the ground situation in Afghanistan.
But Abdul Shakour Salangi, an international affairs expert, said the US approach to problems in Afghanistan was split. He alleged US actions in the region were taken with the consent of Pakistan and both Washington and Islamabad chased shared goals in the region.
He said a growing role f Russia was a factor why the US did not lay out a grand regional strategy. Salangi said the new strategy was more defensive, as Washington did not want to further harm itself in the region and remain protected from criticism of other countries involved in the Afghan conflict.

In his new strategy, Trump ruled out a hasty withdrawal from Afghanistan, as he put Pakistan on notice for supporting terrorist groups.
In his prime-time address to the nation on America€™s new policy toward South Asia, the president reached out to India for economic development of the country where US forces have been stationed for 16 years.
€œA hasty withdrawal would create a vacuum for terrorists, including ISIS and Al Qaida, would instantly fill just as happened before September 11,€ said the president.
In Afghanistan and Pakistan, he said America's interests were clear. The safe havens that enabled terrorists to threaten America must be shut down, he stressed.
