Kuwait- Former Moroccan FM lauds His Highness Amir humanitarian character


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ASILAH, Morocco, Aug 19 (KUNA) -- Mohamed Benaissa, Morocco's ex foreign minister, has lauded His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as pioneer leader for humanitarian and charitable action worldwide.
The UN honoring of His Highness the Amir, naming him as leader of humanitarian action, in addition to designating the State of Kuwait as humanitarian action center, depict the prominent role of the country at the foreign policy level, said Benaissa, also the secretary general of Asilah International Cultural Forum, in a statement to KUNA, marking the World Humanitarian Day, which fell day (August 19).
His Highness the Amir humanitarian initiatives covers almost entirely all regions across the world, particularly areas stricken with war perils, poverty and crises, he said.
The humanitarian dimension in His Highness' character has been sensed in all his diplomatic, political and humanitarian initiatives.

The former UN chief, Ban Ki-moon, held a grand ceremony at the UN headquarters on September 9, 2014, celebrating designation of His Highness the Amir as humanitarian leader in appreciation for his contributions to global philanthropic activities and projects. Ban had also proclaimed the State of Kuwait as humanitarian center during the same ceremony.
Kuwait hosted three international donation conventions for Syria. His Highness the Amir, during the first one, held in January 2013, declared donating USD 300 million. In the second convention at this level, organized in January 2014, the Kuwaiti donations reached USD 500 million, in addition to an equivalent sum in the third conference which convened in March 2015.
Kuwait had taken part in the fourth aid pledging countries conference, hosted by London in February 2016, where the country donated an additional USD 300 million.
Due to the tragic situation in Yemen, Kuwait declared in 2015 donating USD 100 million for the Yemeni people.
Kuwait, since many years ago, has been scrambling to aid nations at crises, catastrophes and mayhems. Billions of US dollars have been earmarked for external philanthropy. (end) mry.rk
