(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Al Namaa Poultry Company has signed an agreement with an international engineering consultancy firm. The agreement has been signed for a project with a poultry meat production capacity of 60,000 metric tonnes per annum.
Al Namaa Poultry entered into an agreement with Semac Consultants to undertake the consultancy tasks for the implementation of the company's poultry project in the wilayat of Ibri. The company said that the agreement is a vital step in the process of starting the project and bringing the vision closer to reality of contributing effectively to the national food security system.
Saleh bin Mohamed al Shanfari, CEO, Oman Food Investment Holding Company, promoter of Al Namaa, said, 'With the signing of this important agreement we will begin immediately to develop the necessary designs for the project with a capacity of producing 60,000 metric tonnes of poultry meat.'
He said that achieving food security in the country is a priority and of utmost importance. 'The sultanate has laid out ambitious plans to increase productivity in various fields to achieve food security. 'The investment arm of the government for food security projects has promoted a number of investment projects within the sultanate and has been able to attract investors and launched several projects, the most important of which are Mazoon Dairy, Al Bashayer Meat and Al Namaa Poultry,' he said.
The project will comprise 240 poultry houses in addition to a hatchery, feed mill, processing plant, water treatment plant, other utilities and administration block. The project, combined with existing producers, will drive self-sufficiency of Oman in the poultry sector from the current 36 per cent to 70 per cent by 2030.
The agreement was preceded by signing two important agreements in the past few months, one regarding the land area of more than 60sq km in the wilayat of Ibri and the other a project finance agreement with Meethaq Islamic Bank for RO50mn.
