Kuwaiti team grabs two golds at Kyokushin championship


(MENAFN- Arab Times) Kuwait's Kyokushin team won two gold medals at the international Fight Night championship that came to a close in Sidon city, south Lebanon, on Sunday evening.

Dhari Al-Anzi secured the first gold after knocking down his German rival in the middleweight (under 85 kg) event just 40 seconds through the game, said Hassan Al-Kandari, head of the Kuwaiti squad to the tourney.

Salem Al-Harbi claimed the title of the lightweight (70 kg) competition after beating his Palestinian rival in the second round, Al-Kandari told KUNA.

Al-Kandari dedicated the great achievement to the Kuwaiti leaders and people, highlighting the importance of participation in regional and international sports events.

He called on the Kuwaiti youth to know more about Kyokushin, a stand-up, full contact style of karate, and other martial arts that gain growing popularity worldwide.

The championship, organized by Sidon academy of martial arts in collaboration with the Lebanese Kyokushin federation and Sidon municipality, gathered 34 competitors from nine countries. (KUNA)
