79 Indian expatriates from Oman contribute to create Guinness world record for longest crocheted scarf


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Seventy-nine Indians from Oman recently created history by entering into the Guinness World Records for the Longest Crocheted Scarf in the southern Indian city of Chennai.

The 79 members which included 52 women and 27 children were part of a 763-member team of the Mother India's Crochet Queens (MICQ) Public Charitable Trust.

The Guinness World Record had set a benchmark for 1km long scarf but the Trust had challenged for 5km. The Guinness adjudicator Rishi Nath announced that the team had made 14.09km World's Longest Crocheted Scarf. The colourful scarves were laid down on the grounds of MNM Jain Engineering college in Chennai.

MICQ believes in catching children young and make them learn creative skills which are useful to them in future. It believes that children should be brought out of the gadget addiction to pass their free time.

Gadgets like Xbox and PS4 are corroding the minds of our children and which is harmful for their mind and health.

The enthusiasm shown by the 27 children from various schools in Oman who along with their studies made two scarves each and completed the target. All the scarves made by the 763 members across the globe have been separated and given in charity to poor and the needy. About 1,000 scarves will be sent to various dignitaries around the world and to the UN Council members as a gesture of spreading love and peace and brotherhood.

On July 29, Kiranpreet Sahni Nair, regional head of Oman, MICQ and few other Oman team members received the Guinness World Record certificates on behalf of the Oman team in a prestigious function held at Marwah Studios located in Noida Film City, Uttar Pradesh in India from esteemed dignitaries. It was jointly presented by Indian Skill Development Council and ICMEI.

Kiranpreet later distributed the certificates to the Oman team members at a private ceremony in Muscat.

The children are from Indian School Wadi Kabir, Indian School Ghubra, Indian School Darsait, ISS, Indian School Muscat and Muscat International School.

MICQ will try to set the third Guinness World Record in December this for the Largest Display of Crocheted Sculptures in Chennai. The team this time too will comprise children and the MICQ has welcomed more Indian children and adults to join in the event. The products from this attempt too will be given for charity.
