Eid holidaymakers get more choices


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The UK, France, Switzerland, Thailand and Malaysia remain the most popular destinations for Qataris in the coming Eid al-Adha holidays, a number of travel agents have said.
Speaking to Gulf Times, Alpha Travel general manager Khaled Rustom noted that many Qatari families book holiday packages to various parts of Switzerland during this period.
'Switzerland has many green mountainous areas, scenic places, and good weather, he pointed out.
Being one of the safest countries in the world makes the European country very much appealing to almost every traveller.
Istanbul offers many promotions and special holiday packages, he said.
It is considered as one of the most popular tourist destinations around the world for its history and archaeology, nature and scenic attractions.
Meanwhile, Rustom said Tbilisi, Georgia, continues to attract an increasing number of expatriates from Qatar because it offers a visa-free entry for residents.
He pointed out that such privilege, which gives different nationalities easy access to a particular destination, is a big factor in attracting tourists.
In Asia, Rustom said Malaysia is becoming a preferred destination for Qatari families due to its 'Muslim-friendly environment, where halal food is widely available.
He added that the Malaysian Ministry of Tourism and Culture has also been very active is promoting the South East Asian nation in Doha, enticing many locals to visit its tourist spots.
'They come here and do trade shows, they advertise, Rustom stressed. 'They have a very good campaign promotion of Malaysia.
A Muslim country, Malaysia has almost a similar culture with Qatar and features modern tourism infrastructures as well.
Thailand, one the other hand, is also attracting many Qataris because of its high class medical core industry, cultural festivals, Thai spa, and adventurous activities, among others.
A leading travel agency noted that UK tops its list of Qatari holiday seekers with nearly all flights to its capital fully booked.
A travel agent told Gulf Times that many Qataris travel to various destinations in the UK, particularly London, during the Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha holidays.
She said they also have many flight bookings to Paris and Nice in France, as well as Italy and Germany, for Eid next month.
Her agency also recorded an increase in the number of Qataris travelling to Malaysia and Thailand.
Echoing the statement of Rustom, the travel agent noted that Armenia and Georgia are becoming popular holiday destinations for many expatriates in Qatar. The two destinations offer reasonable rates for accommodations, food, and other services, she added.
