Flipkart goes global, will woo NRIs with desi products
21 Aug 2017

Amazon already does it and from now on, so will Flipkart. The home-grown e-commerce platform will now sell its products to online shoppers in nearly 200 countries.

This new initiative comes in courtesy of its partnership with eBay, the one whose Indian wing was merged with Flipkart earlier this year; it had also gotten $500 million investment alongside that.

Here's more about it.

What's the plan ?
Flipkart Global

Apparently, the main objective of 'Flipkart Global' program is to push 'Made in India' products. Their initial target customer base will be non-resident Indians.

As per Anil Goteti, who's currently handling eBay India's business, the focus will be on products, such as saris, jewelry, handicrafts, and accessories.

Initially, it will be rolled out for the 'Gold' category sellers and eventually to others as well.

How will it be done?
eBay

The global customers will be able to shop via eBay's platform but it will be fulfilled by Flipkart.

Goteti said, "We are looking to build on it with our massive seller base, the expertise of eBay India along with Flipkart's technology and marketplace strength."

It is expected that this will give Indian sellers access to 171 million active customers, spread over 190 international markets.

What's the future plan?
Global

As per the plan, eBay will make use of its partnership with India Post and Flipkart, its 'Global Powership' with international vendors and carrier services to run deliveries smoothly under this initiative.

Flipkart will not have a specific branding for these products. However, its recently launched 'Billion brands' products will be made available to global customers in future via eBay.
