US warship collides with tanker in east Singapore


(MENAFN) The US Navy said that around 10 sailors are missing after a US warship collided with an oil tanker east of Singapore, in the second accident involved US Navy destroyers in Asia waters in less than two months.

The destroyer USS John S. McCain crashed with the merchant vessel Alnic MC while heading to Singapore for a routine port call.

The Navy said: "Initial reports indicate John S. McCain sustained damage to her port side aft," and added: "There are currently 10 sailors missing and five injured."

However, four of the injured sailors were taken to hospital in Singapore with non-life threatening injuries, and the fifth needed no more treatment.
