Mideast optical industry hits USD2.8bn

(MENAFN) The power of shopping malls in the UAE to attract consumer buying behavior is growing, with a 22 percent increase in the number of shopping mall-based opticians since 2014.

Furthermore, the demand for both prescription and beauty lenses has increased since 2016, growing by 9 percent and 6 percent respectively.

Accordingly, there has been a notable boom in the number of contact lens producers posting, as firms aim to carve out their share of the burgeoning optical industry in the Mideast, to be worth 2.4bn euros.

However, growth slowed in the first part of the year, particularly in the Technical Consumer Goods and Eyewear sectors, whereas the Contact Lenses sector showed itself to be more resilient.
